Titisee and the surrounding area

This page lists some interesting landmarks and tourist attractions around Titisee. For further information visit:

Titisee

Titisee

Located in the black forest in south-west Germany, close to the borders with France and Switzerland, the town is named after the lake it lies on. The lake is at an altitude of 845m, between the Feldberg (1495m) to the west and the Hochfirst (1190m) to the east. There are many great hiking and bike trails or if you prefer to avoid physical exertion, you can cruise around on a noddy train – s´Hochschwarzwälder Zäpfle Bähnle. There is a large spa and fun pool right in Titisee: Badeparadies Schwarzwald

Freiburg

Freiburg

The „Black Forest Metropolis“ as it is called by some is not much of a metropolis rather more a small city on the edge of the black forest just over half an hour away from Titisee. A good option for a stop before or after the wedding or as a day trip down from Titisee – Here you will find many shops, street cafés, restaurants and breweries to keep you entertained. Unique to Freiburg are the two remaining city gates, as well as the cathedral and the „Bächle“. Tip: A „Lange Rote“ from the morning market on the main square.

Travel: you can take the steepest standard gauge railway in Germany – the Höllentalbahn (Hell Valley Railway) (S1/S10) directly from Titisee every 30 Minutes!

A nice guide: Weekend in Freiburg Im Breisgau: Germany’s Warmest City – Emma’s Roadmap

Todtnau

Todtnau

Home to the long Hasenhorn toboggan run and a suspension bridge!

Travel: Bus 7300 direct from Titisee.

Schluchsee

Schluchsee

The largest lake in the black forest (if you have not had enough of lakes by this point) – Try the Greek Restaurant-Kurhaus-Schluchsee or take a boat across the lake to the Vesperstube – Unterkrummenhof!

Travel: Direct S1 train (3 Lakes Railway) from Titisee.

Feldberg

Feldberg

The highest mountain in Germany… north of the alps! On a good day, you can see a panorama of the alps as well as across to Alsace in France. If you have very good eyesight, you can even make out Mont Blanc (as a tiny white spec). Luckily, there is a Cable Car to take you close to the summit. The Menzenschwander Hütte is a good bet for lunch.

Travel: Bus 7300 direct from Titisee
